We'd gone up to JHB for an end of the year visit to our family and discovered kittens in their one
wardrobe! They were mixed but what stood out to us was the one - white with chocholate brown
markings on his extremities! My daughter immediately made him her own (her 1st baby) and we tried
to "mark" him from the rest by putting a lilac dot on his head and so the name Lacky came to be
instead of Lilac if he was female. So we took him home with us to Durban. And he loved the car, he
used to lie across the back dashboard and went on drives with us. The neighbourhood called him the
"Carcat". And he was one cool carcat - he was an American Siamese - striking to look at! He slept
mostly by my daughter and she groomed him and made him her own. Strangely he couldn't tolerate
teenage boys! He visited the neighbourhood and came home smelling of perfume! When you called him
he came running with his body sideways like a leopard! He used to jump up at knock the keys in the
front door when he wanted to go out!Unfortuantely the day came when we moved to JHB and we had to
find a home for him. My daughter took him to his new home which was a couple of kms away. They had
a full length mirror in their entrance hall and he kept going back to look at himself in this. I
came back a couple of weeks later to pack up the rest of our things and found bowls of cat food and
water in front of our front door! Various neighbours in the area had been feeding him as he had
found his way back to our home! He would not accept the food from their homes when they tried to
claim him so they put it in front of ours! I left the door open and it wasn't long he came in
calling and saying hello! He stayed by my side as I packed our remaining things and slept on the bed
next to me that night. Unfortunately I had to phone the S.P.C.A. the next morning as we did not want
him becoming feral after we left. When the van came he allowed me to carry him to it and put him in
a cage. He then looked away while I completed the forms. The Official told me that because he was
such a beautiful cat that they would keep him for their animal shows. Once we saw an ad on t.v.
with a cat that looked just like him and in my heart that's how he always will be a "Show Cat"
prancing and doing intelligent things because he is a coolcat!
I am the gentle Autumn rain
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
